 DON'T SUFFER FROM MENSTRUAL PAIN.

Pain during your period, when you ovulate, or even a few days before your period (PMS)...
NO, your menstrual pain is not normal! You don't have to put up with it.

"BEFORE GOING ANY FURTHER,
have you, like me, often felt... "

Floriane, co-founder of Le Lab de l'Endo

During your period: stabbing sensations, needles in the stomach, digestive problems, nausea, dizziness, that force you to put your life on hold...

At ovulation: ovaries pull, swell like a bocce ball, causing you to feel pain and abnormal fatigue...

Before your period: back pain, bloating, constipation, overactive bladder, heavy legs... that exhaust and depress you

YOUR MENSTRUAL CYCLE SHOULDN'T MAKE YOU SUFFER

Menstrual pain isn't just a painful period; it can extend throughout your cycle and worsen your other symptoms. But they're not normal.

So why do you suffer from these disabling cycle-related symptoms?

The causes of menstrual symptoms can vary: endometriosis, adenomyosis, hormonal disorders, pelvic congestion syndrome (PCS), fibroids, gynecological infections or uterine malformations.

When to worry and consult your gynaecologist or midwife?

As soon as pain limits your daily life! It's not normal to have pain that prevents you from working, concentrating or going out with friends, playing sports...

Effective solutions exist to reduce the intensity and frequency of these pains over the long term: specialized physiotherapy / osteopathy, micro-nutrition, naturopathy, psycho-emotional support... and specific care routines and natural supplements based on anti-inflammatory medicinal plants.

Identifying the root causes of your pain is the key to understanding how to target them to see lasting changes.

FAQ - Treatments for endometriosis

Title

How is endometriosis diagnosed?

Important reminder: Endometriosis suffers from an average 7-year delay in diagnosis.

There are several reasons for this frequent delay in diagnosis:

- The lesions that testify to the presence of this disease are often invisible to examinationThe recent inclusion of pathology in the medical curriculum (2020)
- The complexity of the disease: there is not one but several types of endometriosis, with very different clinical manifestations, locations and evolutions.

- The shortage of gynecologists in France, a recent study by UFC que choisir shows that 23.6% of women live in a gynecological medical desert (According to a Senate report published in October 2021).

Important information: If you have been subjected to physical or psychological violence/maltreatment during a medical examination, you can contact the associations Stopvog and/or Justice Endo.

The symptoms of endometriosis can vary from one woman to another, including :

- menstrual pain:

- heavy or irregular periods

- digestive problems

- urinary problems

- lower back pain

- chronic fatigue

- neuropathic pain

- pain during intercourse

infertility.

Pelvic MRI is considered one of the best imaging tests for detecting the presence of endometriosis, as it provides detailed images of the pelvic organs and can identify endometriotic lesions that are not detectable by other imaging methods such as ultrasound.

To find an expert gynecologist / radiologist, you can visit the Mapatho directory, Gynandco, or send an e-mail to endometriosis associations that have lists of practitioners.

To have your exams reviewed by an endometriosis specialist, you can send your file to the Deuxième Avis website.

What therapeutic treatments are available?

The 3 therapeutic pillars for targeting the cause of your pain and hoping for long-term relief are :

1. Nutrition/hygiene of life (via naturopathy, micro-nutrition...)

2. Stress reduction (through breathing, meditation, sophrology, hypnosis, psychotherapy...)

3. Body mobility (through physical activity, yoga, stretching, osteopathy, physiotherapy, self-massage...)

Since the disease is hormone-, immune- and inflammatory-dependent, these are the foundations of multidisciplinary endometriosis treatment to target :

rebalancing the hormonal system

strengthening the immune system

reduced oxidative stress and inflammation

They complement medical treatments.

What hormone treatments?

As there is no curative medical treatment for endometriosis today, the pill is the "first-line treatment" in France that gynecologists prescribe to patients to help ease their pain. This recommendation is made by the HAS to doctors, based on the observation that menstruation and pain are linked.

However, there is no scientific evidence that the pill prevents endometriosis from progressing. That's why, even if the pain is relieved, it's essential to take advantage of the therapeutic support mentioned above to prevent the disease from progressing in silence.

In addition to the pill, other hormonal treatments are sometimes prescribed according to medical records, such as :

Mirena IUD (hormonal)

or artificial menopause.

In all cases, whether the patient is on hormonal treatment or not, regular monitoring of the disease on imaging remains essential.

We've put together a collection of women's testimonials on hormone treatments for endometriosis on our Media site (media.lelabdelendo.com, testimonials section).

What surgical treatments are available?

If surgery is proposed, it's important that you are surrounded by a team of endometriosis experts, and that you study the benefit/risk balance of endometriosis surgery well in advance.

Not all endometriosis is operable.

Don't hesitate to consult several opinions, because sometimes an operation can make you feel better, but sometimes it can also lead to no improvement at all; on the contrary, some patients complain that their symptoms have worsened. This may be due to a poorly assessed benefit/risk balance, or to a doctor who is not competent in endometriosis surgery (officially part of the medical curriculum since 2020).

We have compiled testimonials from women about endometriosis surgery on our Media site (media.lelabdelendo.com, testimonials section).
